Finance Analyst

JOB PURPOSE

As a member of the FP&A team, this role is responsible for producing the reporting of the Group’s financial results. You will be supporting the Senior Finance Manager, producing both internal management reporting and external financial reporting, including for the Group’s centralised UK supply chain, weekly internal trading updates, and quarterly trading statements, the interim and preliminary announcements.

 

The role requires a commercial understanding as well as the ability to deliver logical and well thought out analysis. You will continuously seek to improve processes, controls and the quality of deliverables. With a number of stakeholders and competing priorities, it will be necessary to prioritise effectively and communicate clearly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Weekly sales

 

  • Run the weekly sales reports process and distribute to Senior Management
  • Co-ordinate the sales reporting for the quarterly trading statements, ensuring that all reporting is accurate, timely and fully supported
  • Super-user for weekly sales tool (WSAAP) and custodian of data held in the system (footage, like-for-like status, hierarchies etc)
  • Work closely with IT to design, test and implement system changes as required

 

Supply chain

 

  • Month end accounting, including posting of SAP journals and GL account reconciliations, for the Group’s centralised UK supply chain
  • Preparation of monthly supply chain Income Statement and analysis of key drivers
  • Preparation of monthly supply chain gross margin information for use by the Group Financial Reporting Team in PURP calculations

 

Forecasts and Budgets

 

  • Preparation and submission of quarterly forecasts and budgets for the UK supply chain
  • Preparation of forecast Group ‘flow through’ product margins and country statutory margins for regional finance teams to utilise in their forecast submissions
  • Preparation of forecast supply chain gross margin information for use by the Group Financial Reporting Team in PURP calculations

 

Other

 

  • Responding to a significant amount of ad hoc queries, and analysis as required, prioritising work effectively to ensure that these queries are responded to on a timely basis
  • Review, and work with the regions, on capital investment proposals to ensure appropriate financial and commercial rigour has been applied in advance of the proposals being presented to the Burberry Senior Leadership Team for review and approval

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Qualified accountant ACA/CIMA or equivalent with at least 3 years PQE (as a guide)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience of building and working with complex models and large data sets
  • Focusses on continuous process improvement, and driving efficiencies
  • Demonstrates a commercial mind-set, and understanding of business
  • Ability to build strong relationships, both with the wider Finance team globally and throughout the business
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis or similar role or exposure within a large, listed, multinational company
  • Experience in application of IFRS.
  • Experience in analysing gross margin for a global retail brand, an advantage.
  • Working within a multicurrency environment; understanding the impact of movements in exchange rates on reported results.
  • Proven track record of delivering process improvements.
  • Advanced excel skills.
  • Experience of BPC, an advantage.
