Life at Burberry

At Burberry, we believe that our people are our greatest asset, and that when they are enabled to be at their best, our organisation is too.

Working at Burberry means entering an inclusive space where all perspectives are valued, ideas are shared freely and creativity is encouraged. To ensure that our values are embedded across the business and that our people are supported, we’ve codified key behaviours and continue to build on these with personal training, professional development opportunities, initiatives that support employee wellbeing and more.

In this section, you can discover more about how you could craft your own path at Burberry, and about how our commitment to our employee wellbeing, and to ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace, informs everything we do.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

At Burberry, we believe diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to fulfilling our purpose and are core to our values. Attracting and retaining diverse talent and fostering an inclusive culture enable us to be more creative in everything we do.

We have set out global standards for how we can foster an inclusive environment in our Global Diversity and Inclusion Policy. This ensures we create a culture that will minimise barriers and help our colleagues to feel represented, listened to and celebrated throughout our business.

Our colleagues are guided by a globally enacted Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy, which focuses on four strategic objectives, including attracting and retaining diverse top talent; fostering an open and inclusive culture; educating and raising awareness; and implementing a global approach.

To ensure accountability and that we deliver against our objectives, we engage with our colleagues directly and create safe spaces within which feedback can be provided to the business throughout the year. We are also supported by the collaboration and consultation of the Employee Inclusion Council, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and our Cultural Advisory Council, which consists of eight external industry experts as well as our Chief People Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion extends beyond Burberry. We champion and advocate for changemakers, organisations and initiatives that have a meaningful impact on underrepresented communities. We believe it is important to celebrate diversity in our campaigns and shows, and we have measures in place to ensure we assemble casts that are representative of our customers and communities.

Employee Wellbeing

With a range of programmes and initiatives designed to help our colleagues create healthy, sustainable working practices, we are committed to designing spaces for creativity to flourish by putting wellbeing at the heart of every day.

To ensure our global colleagues always feel supported, our people are given free access to both an internal wellbeing portal, which provides focused tools and resources to help foster healthy habits and offer support, as well as access to the award-winning app Headspace.

Throughout the year, we also offer seasonal programmes that focus and remind our colleagues across the business of the importance of wellbeing and how to foster this within their respective teams. As part of these programmes, all colleagues are offered at least five days of paid leave, separate to their annual allowance, to take as wellbeing days. Other initiatives that support our people’s wellbeing include a dedicated menopause site, a conflict and resolution framework and our Employee Assistance Programme, which offers free counselling and specialist guidance on a range of topics, from mental health to legal and financial support.

Craft Your Path

At Burberry, we want our people to thrive and craft their own path. This is why we design the colleague experience in collaboration with our people, ensuring their needs and perspectives are reflected in how we continue to support them.

We believe that everyone plays a critical role in driving our performance at Burberry. This is why we embed leadership standards and development programmes across the business, ensuring we elevate our leadership capabilities, support the diversification of our company and ensure valuable conversations take place.

Available to all colleagues on demand, we provide a dynamic digital learning destination with open access to self-directed, continuous skill-building resources.

Above and beyond our core offerings, we provide an ongoing calendar of developmental activities and events and offer a robust catalogue of professional development courses for England-based colleagues through our expanding apprenticeship programme.

We also have a number of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) led by members of our teams and supported by senior sponsors from across the business. Our growing ERGs create spaces for our people to come together and share knowledge, experiences and learnings, while marking cultural moments within the Burberry community such as Black History Month and International Women’s Day. Our ERGs also work alongside our global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team to focus on education, awareness and incorporating intersectionality into their conversations and resources.

Rewards & Benefits

At Burberry, we open spaces for creativity to flourish by prioritising our people’s wellbeing and enabling them to bring their best and most authentic selves to work. To ensure this, we offer a competitive package of rewards and benefits to allow our global workforce to thrive.

These include – but are not limited to – a generous holiday allowance, competitive pension contributions, support with healthcare, employee discounts and performance-related incentives. We also believe in showing appreciation for colleagues who have invested years of service into our business by rewarding them with long service awards, which include cash bonuses and an enhanced holiday allowance.

In addition to our standard package, we offer a range of programmes to help our colleagues including:

An industry-leading parental leave policy
Our parental leave policy allows eligible employees up to 18 weeks paid leave and 20 per cent reduced hours at full pay for the first four weeks upon return to work.
An Employee Assistance Programme

“Burberry is all about its people. It’s the biggest cliché in the business, but it’s true. I work alongside such a wonderful team and I love seeing the leadership standards being reflected around me. It’s so refreshing to have an equal performance weighting on how we do things, as well as what we do – I really appreciate working in a place that has so much emphasis on our behaviour and rewards us for it. For example, on Wellbeing Fridays I get the time to look after my vegetable garden and practice yoga, which both keep me calm after a busy week and clear my mind. Our energy model has really shaped how I think about the importance of wellbeing, so I love talking about it with my team and keeping us all engaged with positive habits...
