JOB PURPOSE

The Americas Legal and Brand Protection Teams are seeking a Paralegal to provide specialist-level support on a variety of corporate/compliance, commercial, litigation, employment, real estate, IP, and administrative matters.  The candidate should have the ability to manage time effectively, work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, be a self-starter and willing to learn, and take pride in their work product.  A successful candidate will also have strong project management skills and be able to build strong relationships with team members and Senior leaders within the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Litigation
•    Manage the handling of civil matters, including maintaining litigation tracking spreadsheets, monitoring all deadlines, drafting and recording status updates, reporting and tracking provisions, handling insurance issues, etc. 
•    Handle all subpoenas, including collecting relevant documentation from business teams, drafting objections and responses, preparing documents for production, and corresponding with issuing attorneys
•    Draft and send litigation hold memos / document preservation memos
•    Prepare case files for witness interviews, mediations, and litigation / arbitration 
•    Conduct legal research as needed 
•    Liaise with Finance regarding provisions and WIP

 

Employment
•    Assist with employee investigations
•    Gather information from HR and Payroll to respond to requests for information and discovery matters 
•    Facilitate wage garnishment requests
•    Assist with drafting and revising employment-related agreements
•    Maintain and manage templates

 

Brand Protection / IP
•    Manage the handling of civil matters from initial review and investigation through conclusion, including working with counsel to analyze merits of potential claims and formulating case strategy, drafting necessary correspondence and agreements, coordinating discovery, negotiating settlement agreements, and referring supplier details to relevant Burberry region
•    Monitor internal channels of communication for reports of infringement and refer for appropriate action
•    Monitor popular online platforms and report infringing listings for takedown
•    Manage relationships with certain platform partners, ensuring appropriate NDAs are in place to provide updated trainings and sharing of information
•    Coordinate test purchases, both internal and external, and manage evidence process
•    Conduct regular training of Brand Protection policies 


Commercial Contracts
•    Draft confidentiality agreements and NDAs
•    Prepare document abstracts and summaries of key terms
•    Prepare and coordinate documents for signature with corporate executives
•    Maintain electronic files

 

Corporate
•    Assist with maintenance of entities’ corporate records for Americas entities, including preparing and filing corporate resolutions
•    Draft powers of attorney and maintain tracking spreadsheet
•    Manage special projects for the corporate law function as needed

 

Real Estate
•    Assist with the drafting, editing, and preparation of lease abstracts, SNDAs, and tenant estoppel certificates
•    Review and analyze lease provisions for tenant’s rights
•    Run redline comparison of leases

 

Administrative
•    General file management and organization
•    Handle all invoicing matters, including reviewing outside counsel bills, liaising with outside counsel billing assistants to review bills as needed, submitting invoices for POs, tracking processing and payment of all invoices, and collecting WIP for Americas matters
•    Handle all mailings 
•    Coordinate notary services 

PERSONAL PROFILE

•    Bachelor’s degree
•    Paralegal certificate or Certification from an ABA-recognized program
•    NY licensed notary public
•    A minimum of 3 years of in-house or law firm experience providing paralegal support
•    General knowledge of legal department and familiarity with basic corporate governance, litigation and general legal matters, with an interest in intellectual property / brand protection
•    Exemplary organizational skills for prioritizing and performing multiple projects and tasks while delivering consistent quality work product.
•    Proven investigative and analytical problem resolution skills with ability to think independently and address projects with appropriate supervision. 
•    Exercises good business judgment with high ethical standards and capability to manage and impart confidential information.
•    Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including ability to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner to both lawyers and non-lawyers.
•    Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures.
•    Strong Microsoft Office skills and attentive to detail and accuracy with excellent editing skills.
•    The candidate must be service-oriented and have a positive attitude; a team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with business partners.

•    Expected base salary for the role will generally be between $75,000.00 and $90,000.00 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.

 

•    This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
