JOB PURPOSE
The scope of the Manager, Health and Safety, role will cover the Americas Retail and Corporate Offices business operations, with oversight support of H&S operations in Vineland Distribution Centre (Supply Chain). The successful applicant will be a member of the global health and safety team, reporting to the Director of Health and Safety and will be based in the Americas regional head office in New York.
The job holder is responsible for assisting with the on-going development and implementation of Burberry’s health and safety strategy. The job holder will provide business aligned health and safety support to this region to the extent outlined within the responsibilities of this job description, in the pursuance of protecting our people, brand and customer experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
⦁ Be the subject matter reference for all regional H&S management enquiries, advice and support in the Americas.
⦁ In partnership with Commercial Procurement, be the Americas lead for ISNWorld. This project incorporates the hiring client (Burberry) of ISN an all-inclusive subscription service to help manage risks related to ongoing monitoring and due diligence of high-risk third-party suppliers that are required to carry out works in Burberry managed environments. The scope of this new process will cover contractors who provide Burberry with maintenance, facilities, cleaning, VM, construction and security activities, whilst also reviewing ESG, financial and Infosec plus general risks linked to supplier failure.
⦁ Take ownership of assigned health and safety topic areas (as allocated) and be the subject matter point of reference to ensure H&S management standards are developed and aligned to industry best practice.
⦁ Partner with internal and external auditors/inspectors to ensure that support is provided to facilitate the close out of health and safety actions. This will include undertaking audits as well as reviewing draft audit reports for accuracy and relevance.
⦁ Provide support to inspect, maintain and update location Health and Safety arrangements documents, emergency plans, risk assessments and safety related audit action plans, liaising with store operations and other key stakeholders to meet action deadlines.
⦁ Participate in the Global Assurance Audit Programme (GAAP) and also undertake risk-based health and safety inspections within the region, which includes construction activities. Also maintain and any emerging trends / findings from audits to ensure these are assessed and analysed to reduce incidents and non-compliance
⦁ Co-ordinate and support Americas H&S committee meetings with agenda and presentation preparations and ensure minutes have been issued and distributed.
⦁ Become an approved tutor and deliver accredited / non-accredited Health and Safety training including planning, scheduling and maintaining records.
⦁ Undertake inspections to ensure all contractors and their respective activities are operating in compliance with Burberry safety standards and policies; this may involve occasional weekend and out of hours working.
⦁ Partner with the Global health and safety team on all H&S related (proactive & reactive) props & fixtures, visual merchandising and visual display matters.
⦁ Support the Global Health and Safety team as required in relation to construction projects and provide advice and assistance to the Architecture and internal construction teams throughout the construction life cycle.
⦁ Partner with the Global Health and Safety team to provide safety advice and support to the event and production teams responsible for regional events.
⦁ Partner with internal stakeholders to support supply chain operations in the Americas
⦁ Partner with the regional HR team on the global Wellbeing programme and other occupational health issues. Complete/advise on person specific assessments (return to work, pregnancy, disability etc.) where necessary.
⦁ In partnership with the operational management teams, reduce health and safety risk throughout the region. This includes but is not limited to: H&S coaching/training, support with store openings and partnering with regional direct vendors and on-going assistance to retail management teams.
⦁ Monitor all regional health and safety incidents to ensure that the correct categorisation is made and the relevant information is uploaded. Provide assistance and support to regional managers and where necessary personally investigate serious health and safety incidents to identify underlying causes, recording findings and recommendations within the Sphera system.
⦁ Build and manage relationships with external regulators, mall management and H&S support networks.
⦁ Project manage, implement or provide implementation support to any H&S initiatives, objectives or training/awareness programmes.
⦁ Support the region and the global health and safety team with the development and implementation of the following parts of the global safety management system:
⦁ Regional (where appropriate) and global H&S objectives, targets, policies, processes, procedures or standards.
⦁ Leading and lagging measurements on H&S performance, providing regional insight from data and measuring performance against regional industry indices and best practice. Provide internal and external reporting as required.
⦁ Internal and external gap analysis and targeted proactive monitoring in the pursuance of attaining and maintaining H&S legal compliance / best practice.
PERSONAL PROFILE
⦁ 3 years operational experience in occupational health and safety or retail management with H&S responsibilities, preferably within a retail or similar environment
⦁ Educated to degree level (preferable)
⦁ A recognised health and safety qualification (or working towards)
⦁ Award in Education and Training (L3) or equivalent
⦁ Hold a valid CSP certification (or working towards)
⦁ Graduate membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (GRADIOSH) or equivalent, with up-to-date evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
⦁ Demonstrable training delivery experience
⦁ Understanding of health and safety legal frameworks in the Americas and have the ability and resourcefulness to determine the practical application of these requirements in a retail and corporate environment
⦁ Languages: English (essential), additional languages are desirable

Expected base salary for the role will generally be between $98,000.00 and $105,000.00 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
