Purpose of the Role
As an Assistant Store Manager at Burberry, you will play a pivotal role supporting the Store Manager in driving category performance, leading and motivating your sales team to achieve ambitious sales goals and deliver the exceptional Burberry Experience. This position demands a passionate, hands-on leader dedicated to coaching, developing talent, and ensuring every customer interaction reflects our brand’s values and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, inspire, and develop sales associates by enhancing their selling skills and closing sales consistently to meet or exceed sales KPIs.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to drive category sales, focusing on sell-through strategies and delivering targeted team training in your assigned category.
- Foster a high-performing, customer-centric team culture that embodies the Burberry Experience across all touchpoints, maintaining a service-oriented atmosphere on the sales floor.
- Manage customer flow efficiently to provide seamless service, ensuring no client is left unattended and setting the pace and standards for excellence.
- Encourage strong teamwork and partnership among sales associates, specialists, stock, and operations teams to optimise store performance.
- Coach your team in real-time and post-transaction to reinforce successes and address development areas, ensuring follow-up actions are consistently executed.
- Support talent development and retention through regular performance reviews, personalised development plans, and recognition of achievements.
- Lead onboarding and integration for new team members, creating supportive pathways for their success within Burberry.
- Model the Burberry Experience by actively engaging with customers and leading by example whenever necessary.
- Partner with Store Manager and Training departments to champion the Burberry Experience training programme, utilising meetings to reinforce key elements through role-play and practical coaching.
- Resolve complex customer concerns effectively, escalating issues to management as needed to maintain brand reputation and customer satisfaction.
- In the absence of store management, be responsible for key operational tasks including authorising post-void transactions, promotional discounts, and employee sales, ensuring compliance with company procedures.
- Promote and drive the digital customer experience using Apple mobile devices and other digital tools to enhance engagement when face-to-face interactions are limited.
- Maintain strong business acumen with an in-depth understanding of company policies, procedures, and operational standards to communicate and implement best practices.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and harmonious work atmosphere fostering collaboration and respect among all store team members.
- Assist with store opening and closing procedures, including securing premises and ensuring the safety of merchandise and point-of-sale systems.
- Carry out other duties as required to support the store’s success and uphold Burberry’s standards.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required
- Advanced proficiency with retail POS systems, ensuring accurate transaction handling and reporting.
- Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to manage difficult customer scenarios, including complaints, returns, repairs, and after-sales service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to engage professionally and fluently with clients and team members alike.
- Familiarity with Apple mobile devices and confidence in leveraging digital tools to enhance customer service and internal communications.
- Proven retail management experience of 1-2 years, with a track record of leading and developing successful sales teams.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities including coaching, mentoring, and motivating teams in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to thrive in a results-driven, highly collaborative environment while upholding brand values and delivering a luxury customer experience.
