VP, Transformation - fixed term contract

JOB PURPOSE
The core purpose of the role is to lead on the execution ofBurberry’s strategy “Burberry Forward” and key strategic projects across the organisation, This role will work across multiple projects and management functions to ensure that the strategy is executed and accelerated. This includes running current high-priority projects with ExCo members, as well as identifying new initiatives to increase profitability and unlock growth.
The VP, Transformation will report to the SVP Strategy & Transformation.
This is a 9 month fixed term contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver Burberry Forward Strategy and transformation plan, including:
- Enforce fewer, bigger ideas in our product and collections
- Support initiatives to enhance productivity in stores
- Identify and execute on levers to reduce cost and improve profitability
- Support organisational clarity and simplification of processes
- Make Burberry a data driven company and advance our AI agenda
- Assess risk to the company and support risk management
- Lead / support on multiple Strategic / transformation projects:
- Functional and regional growth strategies
- Operating plans – work alongside the SVP Strategy & Transformation to orchestrate the execution of operational and functional operating plans that enable delivery of the strategy
- Support and project management on special projects
- Act as trusted advisor of CEO and C-level stakeholders, supporting problem solving and de-bottlenecking across all areas of the strategy
- Lead and continuously improve Burberry’s strategic-planning processes
- Support as necessary on the preparation of Annual Board Strategy Review
- Lead on the preparation of Transformation Board updates
- Support as necessary on the preparation of investor presentations
- Act as thought-leader and contribute strategic considerations into company-wide change initiatives
- Ensure key strategic initiatives are adequately communicated and cascaded across the organisation, also through collaboration with senior and C-level stakeholders
- Develop and implement performance metrics to track the progress and success of the transformation initiatives
PERSONAL PROFILE
- Master’s degree (MBA preferred)
- 6-8 years corporate strategy and/or commercial experience, with top rating from a strategic consultancy or a business similar to Burberry
- Proven track record of successfully leading and implementing business transformation initiatives across different functions
- Strong intellect and analytical skills
- Ability to quickly identify business requirements
- Strong ability to simplify processes and identify shortest path to the solution
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of the drivers of a retail P&L
- Excellent understanding of luxury fashion market, at industry and individual competitor level
- Proven ability to successfully work across a luxury/fashion organisation
- Ability to build relationships and respect with CEO and Executive Committee level stakeholders, proven ability to paint a compelling picture, secure buy-in and commercial support for new initiatives and influence at the highest levels within the organisation (evidenced by deep, close, productive relationships with CEO and Executive Committee level executives)
- Demonstrable understanding of strategic analysis at both a corporate and business unit level
- Experience in scanning the external environment to support strategy development and implementation, and combining strategic and analytical perspectives with a pragmatic commercial and action-oriented approach
- Proven ability to work and deliver across multiple projects and deliver to output quickly
- Proven track record of strong team leadership and development, including cross-functional business stakeholders
- A self-starter who delivers own projects well and works across more informal networks
- A forward-thinker, not afraid to take risks to drive changes to traditional business models, capitalising on new technologies, partners and concepts
- Cultural sensitivity and global outlook, including proven ability to work across markets
- Strong resilience and ability to stand their ground appropriately in the face of challenge
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
