JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager – Marketing & Communications to lead our Japan marketing efforts. This role will be instrumental in elevating Burberry’s brand presence across Japan, driving integrated communications strategies, and fostering meaningful connections with media, influencers, and consumers.
As a key member of the Japan leadership team, you will oversee a talented team of three, including a PR Manager and Marketing Manager, and collaborate closely with regional and global stakeholders to deliver impactful campaigns and experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership and Market Insight
- Develop and execute the Japan marketing and communications strategy aligned with global brand direction and regional objectives.
- Analyse market trends and best practices in the Japan market and explore ways to connect them with the brand.
- Initiate plans that reflect the characteristics, passion points and behaviour of the brand’s existing customers as well as potential customers in the Region.
- Represent Marketing & Communications on the Japan leadership team, contributing to cross-functional business decisions.
- Communications & PR

- Lead all press and media relations, ensuring consistent and positive brand coverage.
- Manage crisis communications and press inquiries with discretion and professionalism.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key editors, journalists, and media outlets.
- Events & Experiences

- Oversee the planning and execution of brand events, product launches, and VIP activations.
- Ensure events reflect Burberry’s brand values and deliver exceptional guest experiences.
- Influencer & Celebrity Engagement
- Identify and collaborate with relevant influencers, tastemakers, and celebrities to amplify brand storytelling.
- Manage partnerships and ensure alignment with brand image and campaign goals.
- Media Advertising

- Align media plans and execution in partnership with HQ and Asia counterparts.
- Align media budget allocation and execution based on global calendar and local initiatives.
- Team Leadership

- Inspire and guide a high-performing team, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and excellence.
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities for direct reports.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with Retail, Merchandising, Digital, and CRM teams to ensure cohesive brand messaging and customer engagement.
- Liaise with global and regional Marketing & Communications teams to localize campaigns effectively.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum 10 years of experience in marketing and communications, ideally within the luxury fashion or lifestyle industry.
- Proven expertise in press management, event delivery, and influencer engagement.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Japanese language proficiency is a strong advantage.
- Deep understanding of the Japanese media landscape and luxury consumer behavior.
- Strategic thinker with hands-on execution capability and a collaborative mindset.
