Senior Manager, HR Business Partner - Japan

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior HR Manager Japan is accountable for the development and deployment of a holistic people plan to enable Japan Region’s business strategy while embracing Burberry’s purpose and values.  

This role partners with the President of Japan and the Japan Leadership team with direct accountability for the HR Business Partner, Talent Acquisition and local HR Admin team and dotted line accountability across the HR Centres of Excellence.  The incumbent will drive key decision making across the HR pillars with a focus on Purpose & Belonging, Authentic Leadership, Talent at the centre and organizational clarity.

This position reports to the VP HR Asia Pacific.  The successful candidate is an experienced senior HRBP, equally capable of and comfortable with hands-on operational delivery with in-depth experience partnering with teams and businesses through change in a global matrixed environment.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a sounding board to the Senior Leadership team and influence key business decision to ensure Burberry values are reflected in our actions and behaviours.
  • Partner with HR team and business leaders to devise meaningful attraction and retention strategies across retail, corporate optimise business performance.
  • Lead, develop and manage a high performing HR team to support the delivery and execution of the commercial agenda. 
  • Drive D&I strategy across Japan to foster a culture of inclusion and drive representation at all levels of the organisation.
  • Drive local talent management through meaningful development and pragmatic succession with a view to representation.
  • Partner with the business and COEs to optimise business and individual performance.
  • Provoke change by bringing leading edge thinking in culture, DE&I and change leadership space to the organisation.
  • Build relationships with retail store team to promote a high performing and inclusive culture at all stores level.
  • Partner with retail business leaders to ensure retail KPIs are embedded in the performance management activities at stores. 
  • Ensure company practices are up to date with local rules and regulation with the aim of keeping Burberry ahead of the curve on benefits and company practices vs competitors. 
     

PERSONAL PROFILE

Key Experience 

  • Operated at senior HR Manager level in an organisation of similar scale and complexity. 
  • Experience in a matrixed environment with headquarters outside Japan 
  • Experience of working in ideally Luxury, Retail, Leisure, or FMCG.
  • Depth of experience in design and deployment of DE&I strategies
  • Proven expertise in the areas of culture change and employee engagement.
  • Strong coach with outstanding people skills.
  • Global and multi-cultural experience an asset.

  • Passion for luxury retail and luxury brands. 
  • Understanding of retail KPIs
  • Understanding of local labour law and practices
  • Ability to define the strategic vision and deliver operationally.
