JOB PURPOSE

This position supports the Director of Architectural Planning for the Americas Region in the planning and implementation of new and refurbished Burberry retail points of sale. Working closely with regional teams and construction colleagues to deliver stores with high design standard combined with commercial functionality, in a timely manner, while at all times maintaining global consistency and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Corporate Architecture, based in London, to establish and maintain global design standards throughout mainline, outlets, wholesale and concessions design for the Americas region.
  • Manage and develop key projects on daily basis, working in collaboration with key corporate and regional partners
  • Create architectural floor plans and elevations for new stores, shops and renovation builds in AutoCAD, InDesign and/or hand sketch for regional approvals. 
  • Liaise with wholesale team and regional stakeholders to ascertain all project requirements and implement these within floor plans
  • Respond to business strategies with design solutions that will enhance store performance
  • Along with the Director of Architecture, ensure that all new store initiatives and implemented and required as instructed by corporate architecture
  • Partner with Construction team on all phases of construction including bidding, award, construction and final punchlist.
  • Manages internal and external partners, ie: consultants and vendors, to ensure seamless integration within the Gateway process.
  • Implement new store design concept guidelines from London studio and calibrate for US region
  • Prepare finish schedules to support architect and millwork contractors.
  • Review and redline shop drawings for adherence to design standards and accuracy
  • Procure millwork and furniture and track delivery and installations. 
  • Prepare budgets and schematic designs for feasibility studies.
  • Partner with finance team to ensure all projects are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Travel to various locations to conduct millwork punchlists and schedule site visits as necessary during construction period.
  • Participating in initial feasibility study for new sites including preparation of initial design sketches for budget preparation.
  • Commenting on suitability of site and highlighting any factors that would impact on construction cost and program.
  • Creating preliminary studies for the region. Gaining Merchants, Visual Merchandising, Operations and COO approval.
  • Following funding approval, appoint design consultants and oversee production of construction documentation.
  • Engaging with 3rd Party consultants to build up the CD set

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • High level of computer literacy with knowledge of AutoCAD design software and Microsoft office.
  • Strong technical skills, detail oriented, able to demonstrate an understanding of construction techniques, fixture/furniture detailing, understanding of mechanical systems and lighting.
  • High level of initiative, ability to multi-task, manage projects and initiatives in a fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and analytical skills with an emphasis towards process.
  • Excellent freehand sketching skill or design software skill to communicate layouts, ideas and details.
  • Degree level qualification in Architecture, Interior Design or related subject.
  • At least 5+ years retail design experience preferably some time with another luxury brand or Retailer.
  • Understands and conveys the importance of deadlines
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with ability in other European languages highly advantageous.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills – ability to effectively present and communicate creative ideas and concepts to cross-functional teams
