Senior Portfolio Manager, Customer & Data

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Manager, IT Portfolio – Customer & Data will be responsible for the overall health and governance of the tower’s IT portfolio. This will include successfully shaping project and programme governance across the portfolio, providing support across the portfolio to manage risk all within the financial framework provided to the tower.

 

This also includes annual and in-year prioritisation and funding approach and cycles, appropriately capturing and coordinating cross-programme and cross-project interdependencies, and acting as secretary to the VP IT, Customer & Data.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create and lead a portfolio strategy across the tower ensuring the appropriate prioritization, focus and authorised funding is made available – including ownership of quarterly, annual and 5 year plans.

• Support the VP IT, Customer & Data in function wide initiatives.

• Collaborate with key business function and IT stakeholders to design, document, publish, and socialise a standard project and programme management framework (across various types of programmes and projects)

• Where applicable, define the necessary programme and project management templates and artefacts

• Partner closely with the IT Operations team to develop and drive process improvements, automation and impactful partnering with IT Towers

• Ensure that internal and third party Programme and Project Managers adhere to the published delivery method

• Develop and maintain a centralised governance approach to ensure that programme and project decisions are made collaboratively, and with the necessary representation from business functions and IT towers

• Ensure alignment of programmes and projects to Burberry business and IT strategies

• Identify cross-project risk and collaborate with Programme Managers and Project Managers to identify risk acceptance, risk sharing, risk mitigation, or risk avoidance actions

• Participate in programme and project governance board meetings, support decision-making, and assist with programme and project escalations

• Lead programme and project status and performance reporting sessions, and collate updates for senior leadership meetings

• Collate and report on portfolio financials including initial estimates, budgets and forecasts

• Liaise with IT tower leads and business functional stakeholders to continuously review the performance of the portfolio

• Facilitate quarterly Cross-tower Portfolio Summits to support cross-tower demand management and collaboration

• Ensure that lessons learned are defined, documented, and shared in a consistent and repeatable manner, to ensure continuous improvement and to prevent recurrence of common issues

• Develop and lead training sessions and activities to ensure that project resources are consistently supported in their roles, and that they have access to the right tools, data, and people

• Shape IT’s approach to governing agile/continuous delivery projects and how this differs from the current waterfall-based governance methodology.

• Manage the IT Portfolio team

PERSONAL PROFILE

• A proven track record of senior stakeholder management. 

• A track record in leading projects and programmes teams in dynamic and fast paced environments.  This should include multiple workstream budgets, timelines and scope within a governance environment. 

• A broad background in IT across various sectors, ideally with some exposure to retail. 

• Possess a highly developed communication skillset with the ability to manage conflicting views and opinions, at a senior level as strategy is being developed. 

• They should have a background in managing cross functional projects

• Experience in IT Portfolio Management

• Experience in Project / Programme Management

• Knowledge of any PM methodologies such as PMP, APM etc. is advantageous

• Good organisational skills and effective communication

• Proactive, takes initiative and can work independently managing competing priorities and areas of focus.

• Collaboratively work towards a positive outcome with others across the IT

• Ensures the well-being of individuals.

• Good attention to detail.

• Interest in technology.
