The role of the digital business analyst is

  • To work with and bridge between product owners, project managers, creative/UX teams, third parties and technical teams as applicable to create technical deliverables to meet stated business needs
  • To provide clarity on what is required for our technology and UX solutions to satisfy business requirements from all stakeholder groups.
  • To be proactive in engaging stakeholders cross-functionally and at all levels to analyse, ratify and document requirements and processes, identify dependencies and synergies relating to requirements
  • To identify opportunities to iterate and help product owners and delivery teams prioritise deliverables and manage scope to maximise business value.


  • Work with the product owner and project manager to transform the roadmap into epics and release plans based on UX best practice, target KPIs or hypotheses to test
  • Drive alignment between IT and commercial stakeholders - identifying, understanding and articulating the business process and technical impact of an initiative
  • Gain clarity from business stakeholders, vendors and UX & design partners, through facilitation of workshops to refine requirements, running structured inception and discovery activities as required
  • Leverage business and technical knowledge in collaboration with product owners, UX designers, other BAs and solution leads to ratify, align and sense-check the ‘what' (requirement), the ‘why' (anticipated benefit) and the ‘how' (solution)
  • Document clear, unambiguous business requirements in the form of detailed user stories and acceptance criteria and support product owners and teams in prioritising the requirements gathered
  • Work with the product owner and/or solution architect to map out user/data flow for integration purposes between Burberry and in-market digital solutions
  • Communicate requirements and acceptance criteria to development teams and maintain on-going business engagement throughout delivery to ensure solution is fit for purpose
  • Map and gain buy in to any business process changes resulting from implementation of new features and/or initiatives
  • Identify and understand impact of cross-stream technical and feature dependencies and action accordingly to ensure consistency in requirements across streams and platform
  • Support and participate in technology selection activity by collating requirements and scoring criteria and aligning this with the business
  • Support test case creation and execution for UAT
  • Take accountability for and demonstrate ownership when flagging, escalating and proposing a range of solutions to resolve issues arising as they relate to the gathering or ratification of requirements or the health of the backlog/sprint
  • Seek functional and best practice guidance from lead business analyst - digital, marketing & creative media, IT and play an active part in continuous improvements within the global BA community


Essential Skills/Experience and behaviours


  • Educated to degree level, ideally at a prestigious university, with a degree in the area of information technology e-commerce or business administration
  • Fluent English speaker
  • 3-5 years’ business analysis experience minimum on medium/large projects or programmes of work, within the Digital/Ecommerce space, ideally in the following areas:
    • Web Platforms – desktop, mobile and apps
    • Ecommerce and digital
    • Customer Journeys and Experience
    • Third party partnerships and integrations
  • Demonstrable experience working in an Agile environment (preferably Scrum)
  • Familiarity with the relevant technical domain, including API driven service architecture
  • Experience of iterative, ‘test and learn’ development and demonstrable experience of driving this through agile backlog development
  • Proven effectiveness in collaboration and open communication with offshore teams and third parties
  • Proven ability to navigate requirements, acceptance criteria and dependencies across cross functional areas
  • Experience of influencing and negotiation at all levels and with a range of business and technical stakeholders to drive out requirements and solutions, and to improve working processes within the team and wider business
  • Inception/discovery and process mapping experience, including ability to structure and facilitate workshops and create appropriate inputs/outputs for the audience
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to meet goals and fulfil the expectations of the business and team
