JOB PURPOSE

  • Responsible for building and maintaining a close working partnership with Design.
  • Bring technical knowhow and expertise to the table by brainstorming ideas/solutions with design in the development of all products.  Collaborate with vendors to deliver to high standards and with a sense of urgency.
  • Responsible and passionate in protecting the Burberry aesthetic by utilising in depth product knowledge, delivering the product development process end-to-end, and ensuring quality and attention to detail is maintained. This includes being responsible for finding solutions to enable the design vision throughout the development process.
  • Implementing and adhere to the Critical Path from concept to pre-production and managing the end to end timelines. This includes taking accountability for implementing the Critical Path with manufacturers and ensuring deadlines are adhered to and follow up on all prototype/sample issues to resolve and drive to completion.
  • Responsible for delivering prototypes and samples on time to the required quality standard, and within target cost price range, to achieve target margin. This includes taking responsibility to raise awareness where there is a risk of not achieving and working with the relevant stakeholder to find solutions and enablers.
  • Responsible for ensuring functionality (including consistency and standardisation) and end use is maintained, and products that are developed are fit for purpose for the customer, brand and business. This includes ongoing risk assessment during the development process and proactivity in taking actions as a result.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining effective working relationships with vendors, developing a strong working knowledge of vendor capability and availability to meet demands. This includes taking accountability to negotiate any aesthetic changes to protect the design vision.
  • Responsible for collaborating with the Product Engineering teams while developing the collections for product testing to relevant standards, leveraging their technical knowledge and negotiating any aesthetic changes to protect the design vision.
  • Responsible for reporting and managing within the budget for product development, prototypes and samples within relevant category, including working with manufacturers to negotiate and calculate costs
  • To provide information and resolve problems that arise during and after the development of the collection
  • Accountable for ensure PLM is kept updated with 100% accuracy at all times

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrated expert technical product knowledge, including specifics on areas such as knit, construction, pattern cutting, fabric construction, raw material (woven and yarns)
  • Demonstrated experience working on site with vendors, delivering clear briefs and leveraging relationships and availability to meet demands. Fluency in the Italian language and strong technical capability is essential to achieving this
  • Demonstrated operational knowledge of factories, developed from direct experience working within a leather factory or shoes (for accessories division only)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to negotiate with credibility and effectively share information with the team in a clear, concise way
  • Demonstrated ability to develop in depth understanding of aesthetic code and vision of the design team and clearly interpret this vision to accurately brief teams and vendors
  • Demonstrated experience working in partnership with senior Design colleagues, with the ability to confidently influence the Designer and provide on the spot solutions to enable the design vision
  • Strong communicating skills and confidence working with cross functional teams, including Design, Product Engineering, Merchandising and Global Sourcing
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at pace with flexibility, sense of urgency, passion and enthusiasm, using initiative to provide innovative solutions on the spot
  • Demonstrated level of commercial awareness and understanding of product cost. Able to operate with professionalism and  achieve a balance between creativity and commercial implications throughout the product development process
  • In depth knowledge of fashion and products in relevant category –‘fashion sensibility’ - knowledge of trends, the market, the luxury consumer and peer awareness
  • Experience of Runway (for runway positions only)
  • Experience of technical and fabric construction / engineering
  • Fluent Italian (written and verbal) to liaise with vendors
