Data is the lifeblood of any organisation and especially so within Burberry. We are looking for an Enterprise Data Architect to help us define, and execute against, a vision for information and data use across our organisation. We expect the role to provide recommendations on the business information / entities required to be available and shared consistently such that they can be managed as assets and drive business value.

This role will have the responsibility for discovering the data and analytics requirements for information for all users, providing guidance on its technical implementation, as well as imparting expert guidance to support solutions design and implementation. The Enterprise Data Architect will also be a key stakeholder in a number of key programme’s and will work closely to ensure our critical data assets are protected in the right way.

The purpose of the role is to ensure that the data architecture within Burberry:

  • Supports the organisation, enabling the use of data to meet business outcomes, in an adaptive way;
  • Supports decision making, delivering a future-state view unconstrained by proprietary solutions or technologies and;
  • Protects our Brand and organisation through proper classification of our information assets, taking account of relevant privacy and regulatory requirements.

This person strengthens the impact of, and provides recommendations on, business information that will need to be available and shared consistently across the company through the identification, definition and analysis of how information assets drive business outcomes. Responsible for discovering the data and analytics requirements for information for all uses.


  • Producing, evolving and refining the enterprise data architecture for Burberry
  • Establishing a target architecture and roadmap, developing this as business evolves, using capability models to support an information-centric view
  • Driving the overall technical and product strategy for the current and any future states of the data roadmap, helping to prioritise what matters most to the organisation
  • Helping to define and agree information principles as they relate to the enterprise data architecture
  • Enabling the data and information management team to rationalise their data sources and repositories, reducing TCO
  • Raise and resolve any architectural issues/risks that could have implications against the security model
  • Engaging risk management functions to ensure that any exceptions are appropriately managed
  • Providing guidance for the implementation of data-centric services and solutions
  • Creating and managing data models in all their forms, including conceptual and logical forms
  • Engaging and directing any ‘Proof of Concept’ or prototyping of applications and solutions
  • Work with our security and information risk management team to govern data more effectively, supporting the development of governance processes and structures
  • Ensuring that delivery projects plan for all required data governance, reviews, sign-offs and checkpoints
  • Engaging and working with suppliers and partners in order to define the best possible solution and the most appropriate deployment of their technology and products
  • Identifying and exploiting the re-use of any components, patterns or techniques and documenting these for re-use by delivery projects, ensuring that projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from each other and business and IT strategies
  • Ensure that operational and supportability guidelines are factored into the construction of any solution - this will include liaison with the relevant live service and service management teams to ensure that they understand the implications of the data design.


  • Proven commercial experience in IT, specially within information solution and system design
  • In-depth experience of designing and implementing information solutions, including hands-on experience in implementing data and analytics management programmes
  • Critical to success in this position is an ability to grasp complex technical processes/challenges and using entrepreneurial thinking to create solutions that are pragmatic
  • This is a role that will require an individual to be able to communicate with comfort with both senior business-leaders and IT Leadership
  • All-round experience of a range of technology solutions and a good understanding of the full-lifecycle of enterprise delivery projects
  • Previous experience working within an Enterprise Architecture function is preferred.
